Spring 2024

A Historic Celebration for the Colburn Center

On April 5, we were thrilled to welcome Colburn friends and neighbors, arts leaders, elected officials, and the media, who joined us in celebration of Colburn’s exciting future, as we officially broke ground on our transformational campus expansion.

Thank you to the Academy Award-winning Breakwater Studios (“The Last Repair Shop”, Best Documentary Short 2024) for capturing the excitement and electricity of this historic day. Click on the image above to watch the highlights of the event.

Hosted by Madeleine Brand, a former Colburn School parent and the host of KCRW’s “Press Play,” the groundbreaking ceremony featured remarks from Colburn School President and CEO Sel Kardan, Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis, Deputy Mayor of Neighborhood Services Jacqueline Hamilton, Chairman of the Colburn School’s Board of Trustees Andrew Millstein, Life Chairman Emeritus, Carol Colburn Grigor, and philanthropist Jerry Kohl.

Following the ceremony and after enjoying performances from talented students from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Dance Academy, and Community School of Performing Arts, guests joined the wider Colburn community for a celebration on the Colburn campus. Hundreds of visitors joined us to see the project brought to life through detailed models, displays of the building materials, installations, and more special performances from our students.
